My Research

Okay I know I am doing this a little late, it is the 27th of break. Well McCallum, my topic is integrating technology to BHS and or district 877 and what that might look in five years and how we are making what we say happen. Some of the questions that i hope to get out of some of my interviews is:

What kind of tec. do you think students should have? Like on a personal use?
(By that I mean like getting ipads in 1st grade and keeping them till you graduate?)

And another great question that I would like to ask to any teacher or principals would be:What kind of tec. do you think we need more of/or better training in? SO teachers can teach better, OR for to help students to learn?

( I dont know if I worded this question right)

I have 2 interviews done by parents with kids that go to BHS and Northwinds. I have the questions ready to go for a pole for students and teachers. I have been reading some articles online about the new tec. plan for 2013-2015.
Some interesting things that I have discovered is that both parents that I have talked to think that we should limit the usage of tec. in the schools. But embraces it at the same time.

Still waiting to have some of the big questions like up top answered, I have 1 interview made for the Tuesday we come back for break and I still have to make one more interview. I also would like to get a few poles out before Wednesday.
The focus I don’t know yet? little help with that?

Deception

Deception can be used in a good way. But it also can be used in a very bad way.

The best way Journalists could use deception, is if they did undercover work to get the real truth about some thing. A way that a Journalists could use bad deception is if the did and undercover report on something and then it turned out to be fake. There was as great video that Channel 4 did on the Jiffy Lube. They had reports that Jiffy Lube was misleading costumers and they would charge the costumer for things that they were not repair. Channel 4 used small hidden cameras to uncover what really happens when it goes in to the shop. Take a look at the video.

A not so good way to use deception is in trickery like the tv show What Would You Do. They create different situations to trick people. This is not Journalism, this is entertainment to see peoples reactions. There is no story point behind it. But in all reality they are all fake situations that are just trying to get peoples attention, so we can see there reaction. ABC did a series on this, here is just one of the videos to show how ABC used trickery.

On the topic of pictures editing, when people get fired over makeing a picture look better. That is really dumb. When you take a picture and then you see the opretuinty to make it look better, why cant you do that? If there is someone in the background distracting you from the main focus person then you should have the right to edit them out of the picture. Take the picture of this girl playing Baseball. Her teammate is distracting you from the gril that is pictching the ball. Therefor you should be able to edit her out and not get fired over it. Think of it this way, if the photographer was at just a littel different angle the person would not be in the picture.

My first Blog

Hello this is Mr. Jake Willmert and this will be my blog for second quarter journalism one. This first blog post is about how major cases influenced journalism. I made a Google Docs slide show on the Hazelwood School District vs. Kuhlmeier case. In the Hazelwood vs. Kuhlmeier case The School sued Kuhlmeier for the right of censorship over the school newspaper. The school principal Robert Reynolds first complained that the story failed to adequately identify several pregnant students. He also said that the story referenced to sexual experiences that were inappropriate for younger students. The school won the first trial and Justice Byron White said that the school did not offend the First Amendment by exercising editorial control over the style of content.

Other reporter argued that the school held to much power and that the power of the school made the students look like second-class citizens. They also said that if the students are able to study the First amendment why cant they practice that right.

The things that I learned by reading the Communications Law was that, there are limitations and how far you can take a subject in journalism and the media. Like for example libel and malice. The rules that are on journalism i think are fair, and pretty clear cut. Personaly i think it should be up to the writer the decide if the story is okay. Not every thing in life is going to be fair. So why should stories in the news paper be all about what people want to hear? What if it is a good topic, but no one wants to hear about it, like teenage pregnancy? Our lives would be so much different if the media or journalism didn’t have the limitations that we do today.
