SOPA & PIPA
1The purpose of the bills is to make it harder for websites to sell or distribute pirated copyrighted material such as movies or music and physical goods like purses, watches, etc. Wikipedia is one of the sites that went on strike for this for 24 hours. Google didn’t go dark, but it did black out its logo and gave you an option to sign an online petition. The White House said that as of late Wednesday, 104,000 people had signed “We the People petitions asking the Obama Administration to protect an open and innovative internet.” I think it’s stupid to have this signed. I just don’t see the point in it. The movies, music, etc have been online for a really long time now- so why do they all care about this so late?
People are saying that SOPA and PIPA aren’t about privacy. It’s about controling. They want to control what we do on the internet. They don’t care how private we are.
On January 20th 2012, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Smith decided to post pone the bill. They stated that the House Judiciary would post pone it until there is a wider agreement on a solution.

The difference between morals and ethics, is values are made by your choice. You choice what’s right and wrong. An example, is peer pressure. People are pressured by the influence of others everyday. They get to choice, should I or should I not? Ethics are what you were raised to do. Sometimes your religion, race, and background all depend on that.
An example of a moral story, is a high school student in Kansas says it’s not normal to be gay. They wrote a story about how gay people should get the death sentence. It was published in the school newspaper.
That’s something I think should be kept to yourself. Things like that can hurt many people and even yourself. Even though you think strongly about something, doesn’t mean it is appropriate to publish for hundreds, or even thousands of people to read. But people do it anyways.
“Designer Babies” are something that are ethical. Some people believe in it, some don’t. It all depends on how you feel about it. You can choose hair color, eye color, and more. Doctor’s say there’s an 80% chance you’ll get everything you asked for in your child. But why do some people think this is so wrong? That’s something we all have a different answer to.
I think our society is judging by what they see, not by what they know. I think honesty is what we all really need. If something is frowned upon in the eyes of most people then yeah, it must be wrong.
Keep some things personal
2Honestly, I think only half of the reasons for suing over libel, actual malice, and invasion of privacy are worth news. If it’s something bad about someone that is going to be playing a big role in our society, then we have a right to know. Saying that the person got a DUI ten years ago doesn’t really matter to me. As long as they aren’t doing something over the top at the moment. Like if they’re involved in an affair, I think that should be kept private between the two people. Anything that has to do with family does not need to be announced to the world.
Something we all deserve to know is if something happens to our society that can effect everyone. If there’s a car accident, I think we deserve to know when, how, why, and where. If someone murders another person, we have a right to know. I think that because it will make us aware of what’s going on around us. We all deserve to know what’s happening in our state, country, and world if it will effect anyone.
Celebrities have so much pressure on their shoulders. If they do one thing wrong, everyone finds out. They get no privacy, even in their own homes. I think we all know way too many things we don’t need to know about certain stars. Nobody really cares that Lindsey Lohan is going into rehab for the fifth time, nobody needs to know Justin Beiber and Selena Gomez
adopted puppies together, nobody really cares! They can’t go out in public and be themselves, even though that is something that comes with fame. I think reporters need to draw a line between what should and shouldn’t be published. If a celebrity is going through losing a loved one, that should be kept between them and their family. We don’t need to get into their personal life.
I think that secret recording devices are something that only need to be used when you are reporting something very important.
If you were to put the recording device in someone’s car then I think that’s going a little too far. You shouldn’t be able to go into someone’s personal things to do reporting, you should get permission first. But sometimes you can’t get permission, because you do not want the person to know you’re reporting something about them that they know is wrong.
Invasion of privacy gone too far
1
I think that invasion of privacy is one of the best policies. Reporters go too far just to get the information they need, which can ruin a person’s reputation. You can sue someone on your own home for invasion of privacy. Your home is the most private place you will ever be at. What person wants someone getting private information in their own home?
A husband put an audio recording device in him and his wife’s daughter’s stuffed animal, because of trust issues between the parents. http://commonlaw.findlaw.com/2009/01/husband-tapes-wife-in-invasion-of-privacy-hidden-video-and-marriage-dont-mix.html
Libel “policy”
1Some people don’t use the Libel “policy” well. I think some people try to cause drama and post things on purpose. Or just to get some money. Most don’t realize it, but we have posted something we could get in trouble for.
In this case, a man is accused of writing rude comments about his ex-girlfriend on a Craigslist forum. http://articles.latimes.com/2008/dec/04/nation/na-craigslist-libel4 Police and relatives believe he was just “venting”. I still think this was Libel.
